Her parents are Harvey Welker, a Native American Father and Julie Welker, an African American Mother. Her mother works as a real-estate agent, while her father is a graduate in engineering. She attended the Germantown Friends School in the city of Germantown in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood, in the year 1994. Then, in 1998 she graduated at Harvard College with a Bachelor's degree. Welker is since the age of 20 to John Hughes who is a prominent marketing director for Merck Philadelphia.
